About the Job: GPI is seeking a full-time Senior Structural Engineer for our New England branch to be based in our Wilmington, MA, or Boston, MA, office. GPI offers flexible work schedules with the ability to split time between working in the office and from home. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the design of bridges for MassDOT, other state DOTs in New England, and other local agencies. We seek someone with a good work ethic, a desire to learn and mentor others, the willingness to work collaboratively with our team, and the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects. We are currently designing multiple-span bridges, large-span bridges, and signature structures. We have new design, rehabilitation, preservation, and repair projects, including structural design and detailing of bridges, walls, and dams. Responsibilities: Project design and engineering, from conception to completion, including proposal preparation, design and construction documents, and construction administration under the guidance of senior managers Actively participating in expanding our engineering operations and boosting our market reach Support targeted and personalized outreach efforts for local and regional clients while retaining and improving current client relationships Apply engineering principles and produce high-quality deliverables Prepare calculations and design documents, including the assembly of plans and specifications for public advertisement and bidding Ability to work in a team environment and actively assist, mentor, and support junior personnel Develop contract specifications and preparation of contract bid documents Review design criteria using relevant codes and standards Perform and review calculations using various software and/or hand calculations Communicate effectively and proactively address client queries Interface with other internal technical disciplines Participate in relevant meetings and prepare progress reports Review and provide Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for project engineering deliverables Follow required checking procedures, identify issues and problems, and develop appropriate solutions Develop and supervise the preparation of cost estimates for construction documents Attend project meetings and participate in project site visits when required Nurture strong client relationships through open and regular communication Provide long-term vision, goals, and strategy for the department Provide mentoring, oversight, and guidance for GPIs New England structural team leaders Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Masters degree a plus) PE licensure required in MA 10 or more years of meaningful experience related to bridge engineering design and management Shall be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and demonstrate leadership skills Must have preliminary and final design and plan production experience Bridge load rating experience is an additional benefit Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Experience and familiarity with computer drafting and structural analysis software Proficiency in current industry software, including AutoCAD and AASHTOWare required; Bentley Open Bridge, MicroStation, Csi Bridge, and MDX desired Proficiency in finite element modeling is desired Sound knowledge of AASHTO and state DOT Standard Specifications Knowledge of state DOT Locally Administered Federal Aid project process for highway and bridge projects a plus Good writing and strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team to execute tasks to complete projects on time and budget Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment MassDOT experience preferred
