Position Summary: The Election Assistant assists the Election Officer and Deputy Election Officer in charge of administering elections under the supervision of the County Clerk/Election Officer.

Essential Function Statement(s)
Pass a post offer/ pre employment drug screen Responds to public inquiries, in person, via email and by telephone. Accurately verify and enter voter information into approved computer system. Receive registration applications from persons wishing to register to vote. Ensure that each potential registrant provides the proper documentation. Maintain the voter files to reflect deaths, changes of name and/or addresses. Contact people to work on the election boards at the specified polling places on Election Day. Make sure all ballots and necessary supplies are ready for the workers on Election Day. Assist in reporting election results on election night Work closely with the Secretary of States Office to make sure all election laws are followed. Assist the County Election Officer in preparing the ballots and all publications necessary in conducting an election. Conduct or assist in training activities for poll workers Ability to drive to polling locations and required training sites. Assist with all elections administered by County Election Officer as requested.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Assists with processing large mailings and delivery to post office via motor vehicle or walking. Other related duties as necessary or required. Retrieving mail from the post office and submitting outbound mail to designated location.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience: Microsoft Office experience required. AS/400 experience is helpful.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Skills: Fluent in Spanish extremely helpful. Ability to operate a copy machine, calculator, computer and other related office machines. The ability to receive, interpret and follow oral and/or written instructions as well as possess organizational skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, county officials, and the public.
Problem Solving: Problems relating to conducting an election within the legal parameters and possible electronic failure.
Decision Making: Limited decision-making exists in this position. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures.
Accountability: Employee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department and does not participate in the annual budget process.
Supervision: Employee does not have supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.
Personal Relations: Frequent contact with other county departments, and the voting public requiring ability to communicate and relate in a positive and effective manner.
Working Conditions: Adverse working conditions may exist in this position in the event of weather during an election. Extended work days are required on Election Day and possibly the days before and directly following the election.
