As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

NEPM's Newsroom oversees the creation and distribution of content that fulfills the organization's mission and grows the audience of NEPM's broadcast and digital services.   

JOB OVERVIEW

This position requires news radio show hosting and reporting experience as well as experience in the production of live radio broadcasts. Must be an experienced host, understand the principles of journalism, and have proven ability to assemble and deliver local content within the context of network programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Editor, the local newsmagazine host will be responsible for the creation and delivery of news and interviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Plans, writes, edits and delivers local and relevant western Mass-focused newscasts during network news programs.
  • Maintains high journalistic standards to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, diversity, fairness and balance in NEPM's news.
  • Hosts live and pre-recorded breaks during network programs, applying best practices in promotion and other radio show elements to create an energetic and compelling listening experience for a western Mass audience.
  • Successfully delivers sponsorship messages as scheduled.
  • Plans and conducts interviews for broadcast as assigned by the Executive Editor.
  • Attends news, programming, and NEPM staff meetings as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including studio work and support of NEPM events.

SKILL SET

  • Engaging and professional on-air presence.
  • Live radio or TV broadcast hosting
  • Strong broadcast writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to conduct compelling and informative on-air interviews.
  • Strong radio/audio production skills.
  • Experience with NewsBoss or other content management software.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills, and ability to meet production and broadcast deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of latest business software required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years of radio host/producer experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of news writing/producing experience.
