Machine Operator - Weekend Shift (Manufacturing)



Job Description        Machine Operator

Job Summary:             Responsible for meeting customer needs by meeting daily job or work schedule:

  • Setting up and operating CNC and manual machines that will cut, bend, saw, and punch steel into parts that will be used in the assembly process
  • Understanding CNC machine programs and completing program edits to hold tight tolerances (to thousandths) to meet quality standards
  • Assisting with continuous process improvement and lean initiatives by following process flow, remaining flexible to complete tasks as part of the team, maintaining a clean work environment and offering suggestions for improvements, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Machines Run:            CNC lathes and Okuma machining center.  May also run fabrication area machines such as: plasma tanks, brake presses, drill presses, saws, manual lathes, Bridgeport, etc.

Tools Used:                 Overhead hoists, forklift trucks, handcarts, computer, small hand tools, t-squares, dial calipers, micrometers, etc.

 Safety

Equipment:                  Safety glasses, safety shoes with metatarsal guards, earplugs, gloves, aprons, etc.

Environment:               Heavy industrial atmosphere including exposure to grease, oil, heat, humidity, occasionally cramped quarters, and possibly wet conditions

Job Requirements:

  1. Must pass a basic math test to determine ability to set up and operate machines accurately. Must pass our forklift-training program. Experience reading micrometers and dial calipers are strongly preferred.
  2. Ability to learn to understand, edit and run machine programs for the Okuma machining center and/or CNC lathes.
  3. Ability to manually move product and materials up to 50 lbs. through regular heavy physical exertion, including but not limited to lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and bending. Using the overhead hoists requires ability to push and pull up to 100 lbs.
  4. Ability to read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and complicated instructions, blueprints, measuring devices, and perform basic computer data entry.
  5. Must have a wide field of vision for coordinated efforts with co- workers to move product and materials between manipulations.
  6. Ability to stand and work in various positions on concrete for several hours at a time.
  7. Must be a team player working with co-workers, other departments and/or other TBEI facilities. The focus is on meeting company goals and initiatives.
  8. Ability to learn operations of multiple machines/jigs within a job area and must be able to regularly rotate jobs to meet job schedule, team needs or to meet any safety recommendations.
  9. Must work at a reasonable pace (measured by production efficiency) and within our quality standards to insure timely completion of tasks and must work overtime as required to meet customer needs.
  10. Must work in a safe manner following safety procedures, including: wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), completing maintenance requests and communicating hazards to co-workers and management.

Additional Job Information:

  • Wage Expectations: $18.00 to $23.00 per hour
  • Pay: This is a non-exempt, hourly position and employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis
  • Typical Schedule: 3, 12-hour Shifts, Employee is paid for 40 hours but works 36 hours.
  • Location: On Site – 52182 Ember Road, Lake Crystal MN 56055
  • Travel: Very minimal to none
