The Victim Advocate Program Specialist provides crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management for crime victims. Key duties include on-call response, court advocacy, public education, and assisting with protection orders, compensation claims, and victim impact statements. The role also involves guiding victims through the criminal justice process, making referrals, and developing service and restitution plans, with a primary focus on administering victim services programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential:

• Research, develop, and implement RTD processes for victim advocacy under the direction of the Police Department
• Responsible for planning and coordinating the operations of victim advocacy including on-call and follow-up services
• Manages a caseload and provides advocacy assigned clients, which includes: receiving and documenting cases; disseminating information and referrals to community resources for counseling, medical care, legal assistance, emergency funding, and/or other applicable resources; documenting services rendered, including crisis intervention, safety planning, emergency advocacy, and other related services; and/or, performing other related activities
• Prepares for and responds to emergency on-call situations, which includes: training volunteers for on-call response situations; preparing schedules for on-call staff; performing crisis intervention at emergency situations at crime scenes, hospitals, or at the Police Station; disseminating information and referrals; locating shelters for victims; and/or, performing other related activities
• Provides a variety of miscellaneous services to victims, which may include: escorting victims to court hearings and trials; explaining the criminal justice process; facilitating the completion of reports by victims; assisting officers with victims too traumatized to make a statement; consulting on difficult or unusual cases; serving as a liaison with CPS and shelters; and/or, performing other related activities
• Coordinates unit functions with other department units
• Provides annual written analysis of Victim/Witness assistance needs and available services as mandated by accreditation standards
• Provides ongoing program development including policies, procedures, and materials
• Provides internal and external training on victimology and related issues
• Develops and maintains close working relationships with outside agencies
• Provides direct services to victims both on-scene and follow-up.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice or related field.
• Three years of full-time experience with a law enforcement agency where duties are closely related to those described in the duties and responsibilities
• Two years of experience developing and implementing new processes or procedures in a regulated environment
• Two years of experience leading projects or process management
• Accreditation through NOVA, COVA, or the National Advocate Credentialing Program
• A combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
• Must be at least twenty-one years of age
• Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license OR are eligible to obtain a Colorado driver's license upon hire
• Successfully complete a personal history and criminal background investigation
• Must be a United States Citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for United States Citizenship

Pay Range:

$59,796.00 - $84,462.00 Annual
