Retirement Analyst I (Finance)
JOB SUMMARY
PERA's Member Services Division provides the administration and related member services of PERA's defined benefit program. This position contributes to the day-to-day account operations and member transactions. Responsibilities include verifying, calculating, and auditing member account information for processing benefits according to legal and regulatory compliance standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Determines benefit program eligibility based on member/retiree data and compliance with state and federal statutes and rules governing PERA
Calculates and evaluates various retirement benefits, such as: service credit, monthly benefit payments, service credit purchase agreements, disability, and survivor
Utilizes analytical reasoning skills and proactive research methods to assist with and prepare for member interactions
Comprehends and communicates about PERA's benefit plans, insurance programs, and retirement readiness
Effectively manages and prioritizes work while maintaining a high level of accuracy in work product
Prepares reports and presents account information in a meaningful and logical manner
May be assigned to a process team in a specialty area such as disability or survivor benefits
Able to tailor and deliver presentation of basic financial concepts and technical expertise dynamically to match member's or retiree's understanding and needs
Researches and resolves escalated issues while adhering to federal or state statute, PERA Rules, and internal procedures and/or escalates to manager as appropriate
May work on projects within Member Services, requiring balancing independent work and team projects to achieve divisional and organizational goals and objectives
Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
Responsible for data entry, information retrieval, and outgoing correspondence
Provides technical knowledge for complex or escalated issues that arise from member inquiries from customer service call center
Responsible for meeting division metrics and standards as set forth by management
Acts with a sense of urgency and accountability to meet assigned deadlines
Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace
Carries out other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education and experience equivalent to 1 year of insurance or benefits administration; bachelor's degree preferred
Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
Ability to learn, interpret, and communicate state statutes, rules, and procedures in a manner easily understood by persons not familiar with the subject
Demonstrated approach to handling sensitive and/or confidential information in a professional manner
Analytical and detail-oriented
Ability to prioritize, organize, and work with minimal supervision
Capable of working successfully both independently and within a team-focused environment
Knowledge of databases, personal computer applications, and related business software
Professional business demeanor
WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard office environment with regular telephone communication, computer operation, and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy and printer machine
Occasional travel by car as necessary for business purposes
Occasional positioning or moving materials in excess of 20 pounds
All employees are expected to present themselves in a professional manner in alignment with the financial services industry
HYBRID WORK OPTION
Opportunity to work from home up to two days per week. Eligibility dependent upon factors detailed in PERA's Work from Home Policy.
