Responsible for applying mechanical engineering principles in the new product development, product sustaining, and validation processes of manufactured commercial access system equipment from concept ideation, design, prototype, testing, and commissioning to final production. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Civil-Structural Engineering or equivalent; from an ABET-accredited institution
Extensive knowledge in engineering mechanical systems, steel weldments, electromechanical actuation systems and commercial consumer equipment
Licensed professional engineer (PE); preferred
5+ years of experience in product design & development
Advanced product configuration knowledge
Working knowledge of advanced prototyping methods such as 3D printing, hand tools, and simple workshop tools, including but not limited to a drill press, belt sander, band saw, etc.
5+ years of experience with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
5+ years of SolidWorks Part, Assembly, Drawing, and FEA experience
Computer literate in MS Office products, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Strong written and oral presentation and technical communication skills - for both internal groups as well as clients and trade groups/ seminars
Displays self-awareness, customer focus, a collaborative mindset, flexibility, and adaptability; instills trust and drives results

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Full product line design responsibility.
Lead and participate in ideation workshops, design reviews, and other cross-functional team workshops intended to develop concept, define design priorities, conduct DFMEA, and determine design performance objectives or goals.
Develop new mechanical systems and components utilizing parametric 3D CAD software.
Develop calculation and analysis of manufactured commercial access system equipment designs to comply to specific requirements, as defined by codes and standards.
Collaborate with internal and external laboratories to develop and implement test procedures and test equipment to qualify purchased systems and components and validate new and existing designs to specified requirements and performance goals.
Benchmark existing products through a combination of research, analysis, and testing.
Perform thorough dimensional and tolerance analysis from concept phase to full production release of new or redesigned products.
Analyze mechanical systems' stress, fatigue and vibration utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) and other accepted engineering methods.
Create and maintain complete design drawings, BOMs, and mechanical specifications for manufacturing and supply chain.
Collaborate with Technical Publications and Marketing teams to create customer-facing technical literature.
Direct and coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and product specifications.
Design products to interface with machines, hardware, software, and human operators.
Collaborate with Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to optimize for DFMA and control costs.
Collaborate with Customer Service and Technical Services teams to resolve technical customer issues quickly and effectively.
Maintain a safe working environment via appropriate use of PPE and other best practices.
