Position Summary:
We are looking for a thoughtful, empathetic, team player to join our ACE team as our School Counselor! You will be responsible for providing social-emotional support for students with IEPs, as well as general education students that may need counseling services. You are a patient optimist - you understand that it takes time to build trust and see growth in students.
This role reports to the school principal.
Responsibilities:
Build authentic relationships with students; consistently reinforce the belief that all students have the capacity to be successful through college.Build authentic relationships with families through frequent, honest and professional communication.Provides individual and group counseling services.Collects, coordinates and interprets meaningful information about each student which helps to identify students with special abilities and needs and shares this information with staff members, parents, and others who are professionally concerned.Build authentic relationships with all stakeholders - students, parents, and staff.Collaborate with ACE Learning Specialists to support a full-inclusion model of Special Education to the greatest extent possible, including attending IEP meetings and monitoring IEP counseling goals.Celebrate student growth.Follow mandatory reporter protocols when necessary.Conduct suicide risk assessments and safety plans as needed, including communicating with families about safety concerns.Maintain the unwavering belief in the extraordinary potential of every student.Maintain a growth mindset with all stakeholders.Communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders.Approach professional development (training, observations, coaching and feedback) with commitment and reflection.
Education & Experience
You are a licensed Social Worker or hold a valid PPS credential, or have a Masters degree in Counseling.You have at least 1 year of experience as a school social worker, counselor or therapist and feel comfortable with cognitive based therapy, including trauma informed practices.Experience in San Jose or a community with similar demographics.You are a mission-driven individual who has experience working with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with disabilities.Your ability to speak in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
